Every year, Dutch Design Awards (DDA) celebrates the best of Dutch design. This year during Dutch Design Week (DDW) we will announce a new DDA winner on DDW TV every afternoon for eight days. The sixth category is Communication! And the winner is...Studio Dumbar with their project DEMO - Design in Motion Festival.
DEMO – Design in Motion Festival | Studio Dumbar
In 2019, Design in Motion Festival (DEMO) presented the best international motion design on all 80 digital screens of Amsterdam Central Station to the travelling public for 24 hours. A celebration of the world’s best motion designers in a public gallery. With this festival, initiator Studio Dumbar wants to inspire and encourage designers and commissioners to make even better use of the potential of this ubiquitous medium. Together with curators, interdisciplinary designer Koos Breen and motion designer Xavier Monney, creative director Liza Enebeis of Studio Dumbar 400 brought together 237 different designers from 37 countries. DEMO was established in collaboration with Exterion Media NL.

As the admonitor of the digital design discipline, Studio Dumbar demands attention for a significant development with DEMO. The impressive list of participating designers and its public character in such a prominent location ensured that it received the necessary attention. DEMO makes its audience aware of the amount and quality of the messages that can be communicated in this way, introduces this discipline to the new generation of designers and inspires commissioners to make better use of the possibilities. All in all, a powerful debut with a smart execution. It makes the committee curious about the second edition and the substantive development of the festival.
Communication
This category is about applications of media that improve and/or change communication in an original way and with intelligent aesthetics. From graphic design to (digital) publications, autonomous or commissioned.

The other nominees in this category were Enter Enter with their project Enter Enter – A Space For Books and Bart De Baets with his project Radical Cut Up.

For eight days, we will announce the winner of each category every afternoon at 16:00h during ‘DDA Award Show Live’ on DDW TV. These afternoons are hosted by none other than Isolde Hallensleben and give us the opportunity to take a closer look at the three nominees per category.
