Last Saturday, The Netherlands hosted the Eurovision Song Celebration as an alternative to the annual Eurovision Song Contest, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus. Nikkie de Jager, world-famous for her YouTube account Nikkie Tutorials, wore a pin-stripe dress designed by 2018 Dutch Design Award winner in the category Fashion; MAISON the FAUX.
Instead of the big show that was planned to happen in Ahoy Rotterdam, Dutch TV personalities Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit hosted this year’s alternative edition from a TV studio in Hilversum. In addition to the three television hosts, world-famous YouTuber Nikkie de Jager presented the online coverage of the event “Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light”. Diek Pothoven, who was added to the creative team as Head of Fashion earlier this year, dressed all hosts in outfits by different talented Dutch fashion designers. Fictional fashion house MAISON the FAUX was selected to dress Nikkie.
MAISON the FAUX is an initiative of Joris Suk and Tessa de Boer: a creative studio that presents itself as a grand couture fashion house. They refer to their fashion house as ‘an affectionate reaction to the current fashion system and a big faux wink in the direction of an audience liberated enough to move freely through an often narrow-minded (fashion) world’.
