From 3 – 10 November 2014 the best of Dutch Design will be on display at an exhibition at DesignLab 2, Entrance D5 1F Dongdaemun Design Plaza featuring the finalists of the prestigious Dutch Design Awards. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Seoul has taken the initiative for this exhibition in the context of the State Visit by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima to the Republic of Korea. King Willem-Alexander will open the exhibition on 3 November at 14.45 hrs.

The exhibition mirrors the themes of the Seoul Design Festival: sharing, healthcare, hospitality, healing and heritage. 16 finalists will feature in the exhibition: Rogier Klomp, VanMoof; Studio Minale-Maeda; Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Meyer and Van Schooten Architecten and West 8; DUS Architects; Viktor&Rolf; Lernert & Sander; Aziz Bekkaoui; Marijn van Oosten; Dave Hakkens; Sander Wassink; LEMZ; Philips Design; Next Nature; Liselore Frowijn; and Niels Hoebers. Among these finalists is also the big winner of the Future Award: Sweetie by LEMZ.

The design of the exhibition is by La Bolleur (Amsterdam). A metaphorically used runway signifies the departure of Dutch Design from the Netherlands on its way to land all over the world. And the first stop will be at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul. Philips Korea Dominique Oh, the CEO of Philips Korea, the main sponsor of Dutch Design Awards (DDA) said, “We are very pleased to be part of this important collaborative effort to introduce the best works of the 2014 Dutch Design Awards to Korean audiences. I hope that many people come to explore experimental and innovative Dutch Design at the DDP.”

Dutch Ambassador Paul Menkveld said that he was very pleased indeed that the Netherlands could present itself to Korea with the best of Dutch Design in the Dongdaemun Design Plaza at the heart of Seoul during the State Visit by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima to the Republic Korea. Ambassador Menkveld mentioned that the support of Dutch companies Philips, ING Bank, KLM and Royal Dutch Shell had been pivotal for the realization of the exhibition and was much appreciated!
