Vlotwatering bridge
The project
The Vlotwatering Bridge, known locally as the ‘Bat Bridge’, is not only a link for pedestrians and cyclists, but was also designed to accommodate bats. The bridge design is to be the ideal habitat for various bats, so that a large colony can form around the bridge. The project is part of the natural redevelopment of the Poelzone, situated in the Westland.
Committee
Bat Bridge over the Vlotwatering shows that building with attention for biodiversity does not have to affect good design. The committee praises the addition of an important emotional layer, being that of a new ecosystem. In an area with a fairly hard look, a pleasant, almost romantic creation has arisen. The environment was enriched with nature, creating new possibilities.
