The project

In this fictional and temporary shoe store in Beijing, cheap counterfeit shoes are used to create a brand. Designers cut the shoes and put the parts back together while local shoemakers are in charge of the traditional process.

Committee

Starting up a project in a country where the counterfeit industry is flourishing and the principle of copying is turned into a private activity, that’s what the Committee deems a fascinating act. Local craftsmen are hired to develop new unique items using the counterfeit shoe parts. The creations are exhibited in a flagship store. This shop is much frequented by the Chinese population and triggers many responses.

— This project lends a new meaning to the phenomenon of 'brand status'
