Scholten & Baijings

Colour Tables

The project

Scholten & Baijings designed a series of three side tables for Japanese design producer Karimoku which moves stylistically between the reinterpretation of traditional furniture-making techniques and elegant minimalism. The designers make use of the natural, splotchy gradations in the wood with transparent tints and printed graphic patterns that give these forms an optical effect of depth.

Committee

Dimensions, patterns and colours are determined by the handling possibilities of little strips of wood. The sophisticated mix of craftsmanship combined with a clear design vision gives the series an unmistakably twenty-first-century and personal note.

— This trio of small furniture pieces fits in perfectly with the rest of Scholten & Baijings’ oeuvre which moves stylistically between reinterpretation of traditional furniture-making techniques and elegant minimalism.
