Place a Stone
The project
Place a Stone is a monument to the victims of the shooting on the 7 May 1945 in Amsterdam. Between June 2015 and March 2016 virtual stones could be placed on a website. Together, they form the names of the victims. In total 15,509 visitors contributed to the design of this monument. On 1 March 2016 it was immortalized in a relief in stone in the pavement on the Dam in Amsterdam.
Committee
This offers a new perspective for commemoration and the creation of monuments. Place a Stone demonstrates that good design does not always have to fit within the generally accepted conventions of aesthetics. It is pleasant that the technical aspects of the website work well and they increase the ease of use. Although the Dam is a place where millions of tourists pass through each year, the project emanates a sense of peacefulness.
