Fairphone is redesigning the smartphone. From product to processes, the social enterprise is redefining supply chains and ultimately our economic system by putting social values first.

The committee calls the FairPhone a brave and fearless initiative. It appreciates the open platform principle by which the product has been established. The layering of the Fairphone – the use of conflict-free materials and fair resources as well as good working conditions and the product’s long life span – is interesting and the result is unlike most other phones. Although the Fairphone will not completely replace the existing market of mobile phones from major electronics companies, this initiative shows that it is indeed possible to develop a phone under fair conditions.
