Edges of the Experiment – The Making of the American landscape
The project
A study of the ideal image of the American landscape. Which elements contribute to this, and at what price is this maintained? How thin is the dividing line between nature and civilisation? Edges of the Experiment comprises two volumes. The first shows more than sixty photographs that Jongerius took over a ten-year period. The second part is a collection of essays about the creation of the American landscape, with contributions from scientists, artists, designers and historians.
Committee
An intensive and long-term study that has resulted in well-grounded editorial articles. The subjects are relevant, the articles are presented with conviction. Every aspect of the publication exudes dedication. This regards a self-initiated project; the committee expresses its admiration for the fact that, despite the financial risks associated with this, in-depth research was performed.
