— "We consider any living environment to be the totality of things that are often mistakenly seen as separate: nature, culture and technology.”

Working together under the name Cream on Chrome, Martina Huynh and Jonas Althaus have developed an approach that makes complex ideas and concepts understandable. They do not shy away from big themes: as specialists in design research and interactive installations they address subjects like income inequality, ecology and the news landscape. Their very physical and interactive designs help people explore new perspectives in a light-hearted and intuitive, yet profound way. While demonstrating their engagement with critical thinking in these systems, they succeed in engaging people in the pressing questions of our times in an accessible manner.

The Rotterdam based experience design studio Cream on Chrome produces interaction design in the strictest sense of the word. Both graduates of Design Academy Eindhoven, they develop work that is invariably based on design thinking and exceptionally strong in communication. They have initiated most of their projects themselves, and successfully involve relevant partners, including academic and cultural institutions. The Basic Income Café (2018) beautifully translated the multifaceted concept of a basic income by using coffee to visualise the flow of money. The Environmentalist Stock Exchange (2022) modelled the global markets on the principles of ecology, where shareholders were seen as guardians. Their project 4D News (2019) explored methods and formats for more complex news stories, making clear how subjective the news is.
